Relationships Matter More Than the Service You Provide!
Let's talk business!

Relationships matter more than the service you provide!

Captain Matt here at a lighting job, we did a final walk through here. Got some bistros over the patio looking real nice, there's a maple tree over here with some well lights in the ground, and there's like four of them over there, there's an evergreen over here. This is why I do a final walk through, but the client did say they just trimmed it up so I'm gonna go check it over there. This is why it's always important to check your work. There's another one, this is the client's favorite one, it's another big maple tree, there's an area light over there, and also another uplight on a very small immature tree.

So, you know that anything in the service business is really about relationships, not so much about the specific thing you're doing because people can get lights anywhere from anybody. It's more important to build relationships and really master your craft because at the end of the day I know I'm going to do good lighting, there's no doubt in my mind, there's no doubt my team's going to do good lighting, but it's based on the experience that the client has. Even over the finished product, and it looks awesome, right? You'd want to sit under there, you'd wish that was your patio that could always have that lighting. But, if the experience isn't good, whether that's from the first call, to the sales meeting, to the install, to the final walkthrough. Or maybe they just have trouble getting hold of you, or they feel like they can't talk to you. That relationship matters more to people than the finalized product, and that's just what it is. If you look at your relationships, the contractors, the service guys you hire for your house I'm sure you'll find the same thing. If the relationship is good and you know they're always there to make it right if anything goes wrong, or they're just there to stop in to say “hello”, that matters more to you than the actual service they're providing, they do great work right? So lots of guys do great work, it's okay there's very talented people all over the place, but the relationship side of things is what I see lacking so much in the service world based on people I've hired or tried to hire. So anyways, for all you service guys or anybody looking for lighting. Obviously we do care more about relationships than we do a specific job, and for the contractors out there remember to put yourself in your clients position, yeah we get busy, yeah materials get backed up, keep in contact and let them know what's going on. It's okay to say that you messed up and then make it right everyone understands people mess up, everyone does and everyone always will. So it's how you handle those, it's the relationship you build. All I'm saying is relationships matter more than you think they do, it's not just about “oh, this guy wants a deck, this guy wants a fence, this guy wants the lighting.” They want the experience, they want the relationship, it matters. Anyways, I hope you guys have a great night, I'll talk to you later.
